HTML 5 Introduction
So if you've been paying attention to chatters on internet these days especially geeky chatters you may have heard the term HTML5. We all know what HTML is, it is behind the scene coding language because of which we are able to see stuffs online. The Hypertext Markup Language(HTML) has been around since the early 1990s. It was invented with the web 20 years ago, Its gone through many updates but its been more than a decade since the last one actually almost a decade since the last update. The version of HTMl we are using right now is HTML 4.0 . So HTML is quite a few step behind the changes in the web for quiet a few time, for example when video came along there was no way to integrate it naturally into HTML. So different company developed their own video player to work on web for example flash player, real player etc. These worked OK but they all external plugins, meaning you have to download them and thats annoying and potentially risky.
HTML 5 is the latest version of the HTML specification. It is an term that describes a set of related technologies that are used to make modern, rich web content. HTML5 is adding capability to deal with such stuff like video right into the code so that we do not require any additional pluggin to watch video on web and there are plan to add pretty more cool stuffs like :
- Vector Graphics and Animation
- Drag and Drop
- Editable web page content
- Storage within browser
- and many more.....
The overall hope is that someday it will create a standard web experience across all device and browsers. HTML5 is still under development and as of early 2013 is not 100% finalized but the browsers are starting to implement some of its features.
The core HTML5 standard is still under development, and it is not expected to be finalized for some time. This means there are likely to be some changes between the features I describe in this book and the final standard. However, the standard is unlikely to be finished for several years and the changes are likely to be minor.
